【摘要】:Bitumensareviscoelasticmaterialswithoutsharplydefinedmeltingpoints;theygraduallybecomesofterandlessviscousasthetemperaturerises.Forthisreason,softeningpointsmustbedeterminedbyanarbitraryandcloselydefinedmethodifresultsaretobereproducible.Thesofteningpointisusefulintheclassificationofbitumens,asoneelementinestablishingtheuniformityofshipmentsorsourcesofsupply,andisindicativeofthetendencyofthematerialtoflowatelevatedtemperaturesencounteredinservice.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthesofteningpointofbitumenintherangefrom30to157176C(86to315176F)usingthering-and-ballapparatusimmersedindistilledwater(30to80176C),USPglycerin(above80to157176C),orethyleneglycol(30to110176C).1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
